Light Amassing (Verses)
I honestly have no idea what drummer I should give credit to for inspiring this beat. I'm sure, given a list of music I like, someone could tell me whose influence likely emerges here, but it doesn't jump out at me. I remember being intimidated by the guitar riff when Aaron first sent it to me because I knew that something a little abstract was needed. I do enjoy opportunities to work outside my comfort zone, though, and I think the result is a cool break from the standard patterns. As I’m writing this, it occurs to me that this may come from working through Gary Chester's book The New Breed, which I highly recommend to drummers of any skill level.
