About Under the Rose

Under the Rose is a band from Birmingham, AL, whose sound ranges from classic rock to thrash metal to '90s alternative. Formed in 2010, they strive to craft songs that blend visceral sounds with emotional, existential lyrics.

Under the Rose began as a duo comprised of Jason Pike (drums) and Aaron Hall (guitar, bass, vocals). Cousins and lifelong friends, Aaron and Jason experienced success in the late 1990s and early 2000s as members of Bad Charism, a mainstream rock group that toured with acts such as 3 Doors Down, Our Lady Peace, Seether, and Theory of a Deadman before disbanding in 2005. In 2010, Aaron and Jason resumed their songwriting partnership under the name Under the Rose. 2012 saw the release of their self-titled debut, a frenetic blend of pop vocals, classic rock guitar, and extreme metal drumming. 2014's Nineveh EP paid homage to the group's favorite metal influences.

Though they believed they had established a powerful sound, Aaron and Jason knew collaboration with other musicians would drive them to become more creative and musically diverse. In late 2014, Aaron reconnected with his old friend Stacy Renfroe, an accomplished musician and vocalist known both for his work as a solo artist and as a member of the band Wanda's Fugue, a staple of the Birmingham music scene in the late 1990s. With Stacy handling vocals and Aaron focusing on guitar, the new trio quickly gelled. Bassist Jay Johnson (J.J.), also a former member of Bad Charism, soon signed on, and Under the Rose transitioned from a recording project into a band.

With the addition of two strong songwriters, Under the Rose looks forward to writing new music and performing it live.
